Phillip Michael Brown

I already covered the second half of 1941 in my post 1941 - Millie's Stressful Year. Her father had died, her older brother, Peter, was a POW in the Philippines, her younger brother, Fred, was also in the army, and she was pregnant with her first child.

Their first child, Linda Lee (my mother) was born in May 1942. She was the first of 5 children.

Five you ask? Most of us may only know about four: Linda, Peter, Julia and Douglas. But they had another child, Phillip Michael Brown.

There is a photo of his grave marker at Saint Stephen Cemetery on the FindaGrave.com.

I thought that I had the birth and death records for him from my research over 20 years ago. But, what I found were the records of his uncle, Philip Earl Brown, who was born in 1917 and died in 1927. He was Grover's older brother. (More on him in a future post).

So I had to try to find the records for Phillip Michael. I was not able find a birth or death record for him in the online indexes. I tried many spellings and other things to try to locate his records; all to no avail.

Today, I contacted the Kentucky Office of Vital Statistics to see if they have a more comprehensive index. They do not. So they don't have any records of him.

Then, this afternoon. I thought of contacting the cemetery to see if they have any records. A very kind woman there took my information and a couple of hours later she called me back to tell me that she found his record and she texted an image of the record to me.

Phillip M. Brown was stillborn on 24 July 1948. He was buried three days later. His father, Grover Brown lived at 667 Armory Place in Louisville.

Since he was stillborn, there was no birth certificate and thus no death certificate. Mystery solved and we now have documentation for him.
